Introduction

Golf is a game in which competing players try to get the ball from the prepared starting place, called teeing ground, to the hole on the other end of the course by striking it with special clubs. The hole is located on a specially prepared piece of ground, called putting green. The objective is to complete ("hole out") 18 subsequent holes with as few strokes as possible. There are two possible forms of a game of golf:

  • Match play - the scoring is done by counting holes; 2 to 4 players can compete this way (if there are four players, there are teams of two playing their best balls respectively)
  • Stroke play - player who takes the fewest strokes to hole out all holes wins (player has to hole out each and every hole, otherwise they are disqualified);
Players are not allowed to agree to waive the rules. If they do, they are disqualified.

Good manners

  • Don't disturb a player making a stroke, stand in a reasonable distance
  • Don't make a stroke as long as there is somebody in front of the ball
  • Don't delay the game
  • If you want to make a claim, do it before the currently played hole is completed
  • Fix divots and smooth footprints in the bunkers
  • Replace the flagstick carefully
  • Don't drop clubs on the putting green
